Assistant Airspace/Unmanned Aerial Systems Coordinator


This position supports Fleet Forces Atlantic Exercise Coordination Center (FFAECC) located at the Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility Virginia Capes (FACSFAC VACAPES) at Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana, Virginia. The FFAECC team provides air/sea space scheduling and de-confliction services, administrative support and the unique service of providing a single point of contact to each and every unit, command and agency that conducts DoD operations within the assigned warning areas and special use airspace. Assistant Airspace/UAS Coordinator responsibilities include: assisting in the preparation of short and long-range schedules to reflect major exercises and events, ensuring coordination with all DoD agencies for de-confliction, being accessible 24 hours a day when required and disseminating the Fleet schedules as necessary. The successful candidate must effectively liaison with all levels of DoD aviation, FAA components, and DoD range managers. Candidate will assist in coordination and scheduling of airspace, overland range, and assets in support of Naval and Joint aviation events. These events normally involve extensive ordnance release on land, air or sea targets. Capability to effectively liaison with Joint and Special Warfare operational commands is critical to this position.

BS degree or equivalent military training and 10 years of related experience is required. Five years of military airspace, air traffic control, and/or naval operational exercise experience is required. Knowledge of the National Airspace System (NAS), Special Use Airspace, DOD ranges, and Unmanned Aerial Systems is required. Superior communication skills are essential. Knowledge of and experience drafting naval messages is required. Candidate must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications and database management such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook e-mail. Candidate must possess strong organizational skills.

Experience desired in working with Large Force Exercises, Air Defense Exercises, Carrier Strike Groups, Expeditionary Strike Groups, Carrier Air Wings and Joint components of the USAF, ANG and USMC. Experience desired with Memorandums of Understanding, Notices to Airmen, Class A-G airspace structure, Altitude Reservations, Special Use Airspace, Air Tasking Orders, Restricted Areas, Military Operating Areas, Aircraft Carrier aviation operating procedures, and Unmanned Aerial Systems.
