This position supports the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division – 7.2.2 in Patuxent River, MD. The Information Technology and Cyber Security Department provides Information Technology, Information Management, and Information Assurance products and services. The Applications Integration and Business Intelligence Division (7.2.2) is responsible for the day-to-day operations, development, sustainment and management of web-based applications and technologies; including MyNAVAIR, MyTeam, custom developed applications, document management solutions, workflow products, and document imaging/scanning. 7.2.2 is also responsible for providing products and services that encompass corporate management information systems, data warehousing, reporting, web applications, websites, and database/application hosting services to various Navy entities. Project teams perform application and database program requirements analysis, use cases, design, development, testing and implementation. Additionally, 7.2.2 is responsible for implementing software standards, new technologies used across NAVAIR, and operational processes.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Keep up with the latest in advanced Unix System security trends, techniques, tools, patches and implementation.

  • Manage the functionality and efficiency of multiple UNIX-based servers

  • Install and configure web and application server software on UNIX based servers

  • Implement security, integration, and configuration management of software residing on servers.

  • Administer policies and standards related to security and technical implementation guidance

  • Coordinate with customers to perform software security testing and scans

  • Troubleshoot to resolve issues on supported servers



BS or BA degree in a Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Engineering, Business, or Mathematic preferred. The selected candidate must have at least four (4) years of experience in Unix, or Linux web/systems administration. ALLOWABLE SUBSTITUTION: Equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

Clearance Requirement:US Citizen w/ anActive TS/SSBI clearance desired or active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SSBI.

Experience/ Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

§At least 5 years of experience in Unix or Linux web/systems administration is required

§Knowledge of and experience with Unix-based operating systems required

§Sound experience with Unix OS commands required

§A good understanding of Unix file system structure required

§Understanding of networks and services (IP address, default routes, DNS, email) desired

§Knowledge of DISA STIGS and Security Policies desired

§Server administration experience with any of the following software desired ColdFusion Enterprise, Tomcat, Oracle WebLogic, Oracle Application Server, and/or Apache HTTP

§CompTIA Security certification is required
