This position supports tasks assigned by the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Patuxent River, MD, Electromagnetic Compatibility Test and Evaluation Branch, AIR (EMC T&E Branch).

Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Some travel is required.


Successful candidate will directly support all aircraft and systems engineering support group team leaders. Assignments involve supporting various EMC T&E programs with the following:

MIL-STD-464 EMC Testing - coordinating schedules for aircraft and systems EMC testing, reviewing and commenting on EMC Test Plans compliance, recommending approval/disapproval of EMC test plans, monitoring/observing EMC testing, advising the Program E3 Lead Engineer if changes are needed for the testing, reviewing and commenting on EMC test reports, recommending approval/disapproval of EMC Test Reports.

EMC Modeling - Coordinates efforts of NAWCAD and other agencies to provide modeling of aircraft and systems to support testing and verification for Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3). Develops in-house capabilities to perform computational electromagnetic modeling for T&E programs.

Future Developments - Support the development of advanced EMC Branch test capabilities, requirements for new avionics simulators/stimulators, verification methods, and analyses for all E3 test functional areas.

Program Support - Interface with NAWCAD customers to support their unique requirements and resulting integrations into the system from a E3 engineering perspective.

Operational Aircraft - Interface with the operational squadrons and Operational Test groups to transfer E3 insight and feedback on any E3 issues to the lead E3 program engineer.

Candidate will be expected to apply engineering principles to evaluate, investigate, analyze, plan, design, develop, and implement the Systems Engineering E3 requirements for Naval airborne platforms, weapons, and avionics. Candidate will review and/or prepare engineering and technical analyses, reports, change proposals, and other technical documentation with respect to E3. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to apply engineering experience to perform functions such as the evaluation of systems integration requirements, configuration management, quality assurance, testing, or acquisition and resource management with respect to E3.



BS or BA degree in Engineering or Physics. A BS degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from a school of engineering having a curriculum which was accredited by the ABET will be considered a plus.

At least five (5) years of professional engineering experience; at least four (4) years of the experience shall have consisted of performing engineering functions with respect to aircraft E3 systems engineering and/or E3 T&E.


  • Excellent organizational skills are required.

  • Ability to utilize the Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook e-mail).

  • Good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively and professionally at multiple customer organizational levels.

  • Working knowledge of electrical/electronics engineering disciplines and specifically those associated with Electromagnetics and RF energy generation and propagation required.


Experience associated with Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) [Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electromagnetic Vulnerability (EMV), Hazards of EM Radiation to Ordnance, Personnel, and Fuels (HERO, HERP, HERF), Lightning, P-static, Bonding and Grounding, etc. will be considered a plus. Any experience with RDT&E and/or systems integration of military aircraft systems is a plus.
