Description

The Respiratory Protection Technician will perform tasks associated with the Occupational Health Program for the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and NASA requirements. Incumbent will co-administer the MSFC Respiratory Protection program and provide maintenance and repair services for all Government-owned respiratory protection equipment located at MSFC and RSA. These services shall consist of medical coordination, inspection, testing, training, preventive maintenance/cleaning, repairing, storage and issuing, quantitative/qualitative face-fit testing, filling compressed air cylinders, ensuring proper hydrostatic testing of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and emergency life support apparatus (ELSA) or equivalent cylinders and required record-keeping.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for compliance with KBRwyle’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Program and all safety policies and procedures of the company, including reporting of safety violations or potential violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel

  • Know and adhere to KBRwyle policies, procedures, and work rules and demonstrate a strong work ethic

  • Maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by KBRwyle

  • Provide oversight and program management of the respiratory protection program at MSFC

  • Manage the NASA CERTrak database as it pertains to respiratory protection

  • Coordinate with Redstone Army personnel for respiratory protection

  • Coordinate with Medical to ensure all respiratory protection participants are medically cleared for fit-testing

  • Coordinate with the KBRwyle Industrial Hygiene Manager to ensure proper site-wide support

  • Schedule all respiratory protection participants for training and fit testing

  • Train all respiratory protection participants for NIOSH approved respirators

  • Fit test respiratory protection participants for NIOSH approved respirators, issue appropriate equipment, and maintain records of all activities

  • Inspect, clean, perform preventive maintenance, and repair all Government-owned respiratory protection equipment

  • Ensure all SCBA and ELSA cylinders are properly hydrostatically tested

  • Electronically maintain the Government-provided records containing all relevant information for respiratory protection participants

  • Assess exposure risks and assign proper protection for various airborne hazards

  • Maintain current inventory of all respiratory protection equipment

  • Conduct breathing air sampling in accordance with NFPA 1989-2013

  • Assure the Respiratory Protection Program is in compliance with all NASA/MSFC and OSHA standards

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency plus 2 years of experience in the environmental, health and safety field.

Skills:

  • Have experience and adequate training in qualitative and quantitative fit testing.

  • Have or be willing to obtain OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training

  • Possess or be willing to obtain manufacturer training and or authorization to perform maintenance and repair on complex respiratory protection devices, such as self-contained breathing apparatuses

  • Ability to communicate with multiple levels of personnel
