I.PURPOSE/FUNCTION (JOB SUMMARY)

The purpose/function of this position is to provide systems engineering and integration support for the development, deployment and sustainment of hardware for use on the International Space Station and exploration missions (e.g. Orion).Typical job function will include derivation of customer needs and goals into project requirements and subsequent development of test and verification methodologies. This job function will include the identification and documentation of interface definitions, conceptualizing methods of operations; performing trade studies and assessing system architecture; design input, assessments of hardware options, verification, validation and acceptance of hardware and software solutions including the management of closure documentation and reports between the development team, NASA and any other applicable identified contractors.This job function will include failure analysis and problem reporting at both the subsystem and system level.This job function will include providing status and reports to contract management and the NASA customer.The ability to properly schedule and prioritize tasking will be paramount. This position will aid project teams in executing system engineering and integration tasks to complete project documentation deliverables and support the design and development life cycle.

II.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel

  • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures

  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company

  • Responsible for completing all assigned training

  • Responsible for deriving and sub-allocating requirements

  • Ability to develop Operational Concepts

  • Ability to document requirements, audit design and define verification requirements

  • Identification of interfaces and critical parameters

  • Identification of project risks and mitigation strategies

  • Ability to understand and perform configuration management

  • Identification of measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system;

  • Ability to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes and incorporating the results into system specifications;

  • Ability to work within a team environment

  • Ability to understand and execute process and procedures

  • Well-developed skills in both written and verbal communication

  • Provide oral and written status to both contractor management and the NASA customer.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

1.REQUIRED

  • A BS degree in Engineering or in a related field with 5-8 years’ experience

  • Ability to derive and sub-allocate requirements

  • Experience in project planning

  • Capable of identifying risks and issues, reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options for mitigation and implement solutions

  • Experience with NASA systems

  • Excellent written and oral communication skill including presenting information to customers.Ability to perform configuration management, and document processes.

2.DESIRED:

  • Previous working experience with NASA or a NASA contractor.

  • Previous experience with Human Systems Engineering such as human factors and designing for the product end-user

  • Experience with technical management of subcontracts, initiation to completion

  • Experience designing tests to prove engineering solutions and to document those tests in formal project test plans

SKILLS/TRAINING

1.REQUIRED:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to read Engineering Drawings

  • Configuration management / Data management experience

  1. DESIRED:
  • Systems Engineering training;

  • Safety Training

  • Ability to execute root cause analysis, develop mitigating and contingency actions and monitor as appropriate

  • Familiarity with NASA or DoD Work Instructions; Experience with NASA systems, such as MIDAS, CDS, QARC, EDMS, ELABEL
