Senior Electrical Design Engineer (2400 NASA Parkway)
The Senior Electrical Engineer will participate in the development of the hardware components of ground and flight hardware systems that will contribute to accomplishing NASA's mission, primarily for maintaining the health and well-being of astronauts or conducting experiments on the International Space Station and for exploration. The incumbent must possess the capacity to understand and utilize the major concepts of electrical engineering as well as having an understanding of mechanical , biomedical and software engineering principles that will enable the successful interface with engineers performing work in these disciplines. The Senior Electrical Engineer will participate in electrical data and power sub-systems including design support, cabling, component identification, part selection, circuit design and layout, drawing development and release. The incumbent will also support the fabrication, assembly and test of the sub-systems/systems, ensure timely procurements, support in the review of design requirements and proposed verification methods. The incumbent will have significant technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments; will support planning and developing projects; is fully competent in area of responsibility; will consult with manager on unusual problems or developments; will be an individual contributor on assigned tasks; will evaluate, select and apply specialized knowledge to achieve task completion; will be responsible for completion of multiple or complex projects; serve as technical lead. The incumbent will perform other assignments and duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
Responsible for completing all assigned training
Demonstrate involvement and commitment to the continuous improvement process
Perform electrical engineering work including, but not limited to, requirements generation and definition, hardware/software conceptual design and test, hardware/software preliminary design and test, hardware/software detailed design and test, hardware/software assembly/fabrication, hardware/software acceptance and qualification test support, hardware/software operations support in support of assigned projects.
Receive limited instruction on job requirements and work with little supervision to evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to deal with common problems. When unusual or complex problems are encountered, the engineer will consult with management for receive technical guidance.
Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields (e.g. circuit design and analysis, derating of components, derating analyses, troubleshooting, etc.)
Conceive, plan and conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity.
Carry out complex assignments requiring the development of new techniques and procedures. Work will result in the development of new equipment, processes, products or methods.
Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable.
Perform necessary engineering calculations to ensure designs meet customer requirements.
Support procurement of hardware for controlled and uncontrolled fabrication
Prepare and execute test procedures and tests
Prepare fabrication documentation and support hardware fabrication for controlled and uncontrolled hardware.
Support preparations for and presentation of design review materials
Report assigned task status to project lead, project manager, and/or Section/department manager as requested
Provide input to project schedules and schedule tracking
Maintain communication with individuals within or outside the project and/or Flight Hardware Department with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field.
Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods. Work requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories.
Serve in a technical leadership/mentoring role

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Bachelor of Science Degree in a related field (e.g. Electrical, Biomedical) plus a minimum of 12 years’ experience working with aerospace hardware OR Master’s of Science Degree in a related field plus 8 years’ experience working with aerospace hardware OR PhD in a related field plus 6 years’ experience working with aerospace hardware
Electrical Engineering degree
NASA hardware development experience
Working knowledge and experience in NASA EEE Parts requirements
MS Office familiarity
Experience in Schematic Capture software (e.g. Altium. Orcad), PWB Layout, and circuit Simulation (e.g. Pspice)
IPC Certification in PWB Layout
Background in the implementing flight hardware design requirements in the NASA development environment.
