The role of the JSC HMTA is to execute the Technical Authority governance model for human space flight for the Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO). The purpose of the HMTA is twofold with respect to human space flight: the transparent adjudication of crew health risk and the discharge of technical expertise. Therefore, the goal of the HMTA is to manage human system risks through fundamental integration of human health and performance requirements via programmatic and project insight and oversight, coupled with the appropriate support and involvement of subject matter experts. The HMTA accomplishes this goal through dedicated and cross-matrixed HH&P personnel. This highly diverse staff monitors how well human health and performance requirements are met, documents issues of unmet or under met requirements, communicates the status of these issues to HH&P management, Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), and HMTA Delegates, and prepares materials for communicating awareness or escalating issues as needed. This work is done for all current and emerging NASA human space flight programs, the Human Research Program, and other human-related technology programs.
This position will support the Health and Medical Technical Authority (HMTA) at NASA/JSC. The team serves in the role of integrators and subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure NASA human spaceflight programs adequately incorporate and implement HMTA standards. The integratory position needs to obtain and maintain broad knowledge of all human health and performance requirements and engage SMEs for the technical details. Our integrators are assigned to specific areas and interface with HMTA and HH&P management as well as with Program personnel. Human Systems Integration strategies are implemented in order to inform the HMTA and efficiently support Human Spaceflight Programs. Lessons learned while providing support to Human Spaceflight Programs are leveraged to improve HMTA standards and strategic processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
Responsible for completing all assigned training
Serve as Health and Medical Technical Authority (HMTA) Integrator.
Provide Human Systems Integration (HSI) support to NASA customers.
Coordinate with technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
Coordinate with NASA Program Requirement Owners.
Provide insight to Program compliance with HMTA mandatory standards as well as inform HMTA decisions.
Coordinate and participate in Program document and design reviews, develop corresponding summary assessments, and follow up on resulting actions.
Develop requirements mapping from HMTA standards to Program documents and corresponding gap analysis.
Review and assess integrated test and analysis activities, formulate, summarize, and represent an HMTA position based on subject matter expertise for Program reviews.
Develop position papers, presentations, and/or requirements interpretations for HMTA issues.
Participate in HMTA meetings, NASA Human Spaceflight Program meetings, HH&P meetings, and internal team meetings; develop and deliver presentations as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, human systems integration, biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial engineering, or closely related field.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in human systems integration is desired.
- The candidate shall have demonstrated the ability to work independently and shall possess strong verbal and written communication skills including delivering presentations and writing reports. Verbal skills also include the capability to speak up in Program meetings. The candidate shall also have the capability to listen to Subject Matter Experts (SME), and to understand enough to represent their expertise, but not to serve as the expert to the exclusion of the SME. Ability to work in Microsoft Office's suite of tools, especially Excel, is required.
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., NASA-STD-3001) and human space flight is desired. Candidate should have the ability to effectively interact with customers at all levels.
