Terra Instrument Subsystem Engineer


Perform all duties of the Terra Instruments Subsystem Engineer, which includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Directly report to the Terra Flight Systems Manager (FSM)

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Instruments on the Terra spacecraft

  • Monitor the trending and analysis data for the Terra Instruments on a daily, weekly, monthly and long term basis

  • Assist online engineers in identifying and correcting Instrument anomalies encountered in real-time; including off-hours/weekends

  • Coordinate all routine, special, and anomaly support activities with the Instrument Operations Teams (IOTs)

  • Support the planning and execution of all spacecraft maneuvers (Drag make up maneuvers, inclination adjusts, MODIS rolls, etc.).

  • Understand Fault, Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) and how to respond to all Instrument related spacecraft anomalies

  • Develop/Create process improvements, enhancements for the Instrument subsystem and Terra spacecraft in order to improve accuracy or efficiency

  • Develop, test, and maintain Instrument procedures, pages, plots, etc

  • Train new online engineers about the Instrument subsystem

  • Submit monthly status and other reports as needed

  • Attend all necessary meetings related to the Instruments and Terra spacecraft. This can include leading Instrument related meetings and/or providing inputs


Systems Engineer

  • BS in Engineering or Related Discipline

Systems Engineer, Experienced

  • BS in Engineering or Related Discipline

  • 3 years of spacecraft flight operations experienced including subsystem experience (EOS Flight operations preferred)
