Research Assistant


The Research Assistant will work with a team of scientists, engineers, physicians and other researchers in carrying out research in support of the Operational Based Vision Assessment Lab. The research is in support of the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, Department of Aeromedical Research.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducting literature reviews and summarizing previous research concerning vision science, human performance, and flight simulation.

  • Assist with designing experiments to investigate human visual performance and individual difference in visual performance.

  • Recruiting, scheduling, and compensating research subjects.

  • Ensuring compliance with Institutional Review Board human subject use requirements.

  • Setting up experimental equipment.

  • Calibrating and operating research equipment.

  • Collecting and analyzing human subject data.

  • Maintaining accurate human subject records, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects.

  • Providing ready access to all experimental data for Principal and Associate Investigators.

  • Requesting or acquiring equipment or supplies necessary for research projects.

  • Managing and responding to project related e-mail.

  • Preparing, maintaining, and updating website materials.

  • Assisting in the preparation of articles, reports, and presentations.Required Education/Experience:

  • At least a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Human Factors or a related field of study with specific coursework in vision science (i.e., physiological and perceptual mechanisms for processing light along with connections to real-work applications)

  • At least 1 years of work experience as a (student) research assistant Required Skills/Training:

  • Experience with statistical analysis software packages (e.g. MATLAB, SPSS, SAS, etc.)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products

  • Must be able to attain a Secret Clearance Desired Education, Experience, Skills or Training:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Human Factors, or a related field of study

  • Training and/or work experience in the field of optometry/ophthalmology is highly desired

  • Experience supporting military research and development Standard Company Requirements:

  • Position requires U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status.
