Journeyman Program Manager


The AFLCMC Light Attack Aircraft special project team requires one (1) program manager to support the development of plans, processes, and acquisition strategies to standup a Light Attack Aircraft Program Office. Position will work closely with AF leadership, support staff and personnel to coordinate strategic and operational level action items, discussions and events.



Education: A Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience or a Master's degree and 6 years of experience is required. Master's degree in Engineering, MBA with concentration in Project Management or acquisition related area is desired.

The program manager must demonstrate experience and knowledge of:

  • DoD and Air Force acquisition processes and execution (cost, schedule, performance, and risk) of a program

  • Program Management

  • Integrated Master Schedules

  • Manpower

  • AF POM/budgeting

  • Risk Management

  • Test and Evaluation

  • Air Force Materiel Command and Air Force Life Cycle Management Center policies, processes, and procedures

Must have current experience (two of the past seven years) working on aircraft systems supporting the USAF on Life-Cycle acquisition issues. The Program Manager will have to show practical and demonstrated program management skills with emphasis on leadership, supervision and acquisition experience with the following requirements: Possess outstanding writing and briefing skills; Provide oversight of cost, schedule, and performance tracking; Evaluate program risk; Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the desire to be a part of an integrated team of both government and contractor personnel; Ability to interact with senior leaders, Conduct analyses, identify discrepancies, and provide corrective action plans; Ability to lead and supervise a team; Prepare Statement of Work (SOW) requirements for new efforts; Prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) requirements for new efforts; Understand the Department of Defense (DoD) Acquisition process.

This position will be a key member of a high-impact, fast-paced, high visibility team that has been tasked with building an 80 person organization within the next 2-4 years. Key skills required:

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in AFLCMC (or predecessor organizations) aircraft program offices

  • Experience with Fighter Aircraft acquisition, sustainment, logistics, and supply chain management

  • Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) Level II Certification in Program Management is highly desired.

  • Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) Level II Certification in Test and Evaluation is highly desired.
