Centrifuge and Altitude Chamber Engineer



The general function of the Centrifuge Engineer is to support the human centrifuge at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. The position will setup mission scenarios to be "flown" on the centrifuge to enable altitude, acceleration, and spatial disorientation research. The position will lead technical support teams for experiments using the centrifuge and altitude chambers.

The candidate will monitor data collection during studies, provide expert advice to the principal investigators, and brief subjects about centrifuge procedures when testing is needed; record data information when studies are being conducted on the centrifuge and support the principal investigator in the area of preparing human subjects who will ride the centrifuge for either research studies or training. The person will be responsible for communicating any data collection problems to the PI when a study is in progress.


Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or another engineering discipline, with at least five years of experience in electrical engineering designing, planning, creating and setting up test equipment for scientific experiments. The candidate shall have knowledge of troubleshooting methods to assist in repairs or modifications to 480 volt and lower AC circuits, DC circuits, Programmable Logic controllers (PLC) and control systems.

Required Skills/Training:

The candidate shall have demonstrated proficiency in analyzing, designing and implementing existing technology for technical refresh of centrifuge/altitude chamber electrical and electronic systems.

Must be comfortable working in small or confined spaces.

Must possess or capable of obtaining Secret Clearance.
