SATCOM Engineer


This position will perform as a competent specialist, consultant, and/or advisor on assignments requiring advanced application of technical or engineering principles relative to Radio Frequency Engineering as it relates to satellite communications systems (SATCOM). Assignments are generally complex in nature with considerable discretion given to work details and approaches utilized. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Provides support in the design, development, and testing of radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems architecture, components, circuits or products. Efforts may include analog and digital circuits or products, frequency synthesizers, amplifiers, transmitters and receivers, down converters, frequency multipliers, digital logic, demodulators, Land Mobile Radio systems, SATCOM, commercial communication systems, Wi-Fi, cellular, Tactical Communications, down converters, filters, and antenna systems ranging from arrays to parabolic reflectors.

  • Performs, or directs the performance of complex engineering assignments involved in the research, design, and development of an overall RF SATCOM system comprised of a number of components and or sub systems.

  • Evaluates engineering progress, developments, and findings to assure technical adequacy to meet operational demands and conformance with established standards and practices. Recommends alternate solutions applying latest equipment and technology as it relate to RF systems in SATCOM environment.

  • Originates engineering plans, ideas, schemes, and techniques as may be required to direct the efforts of assigned personnel in the achievement of desired results and objectives. Manages RF SATCOM projects from concept to delivery of hardware solution.

  • Manages maintenance of RF SATCOM systems.

  • Prepares plans, systems specifications and equipment operating procedures. Prepares studies, cost estimates and technical reports.Compiles and evaluates test data, prepares technical analysis, recommends methods and processes required to meet design objectives on new or improved products and/or processes. Coordinates with other technical support personnel.



Level III

  • BS in Engineering with at least 8 years of experience working with RF components and systems.

Level II

  • BS in Engineering with at least 5 years of experience working with RF components and systems. In lieu of formal education 13 years of related engineering or applied science work experience.

Additional Qualifications:

  • An active TS/SCI clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph is required.

  • SATCOM and RF system experience to include design, operation, maintenance and installation of RF SATCOM systemsranging from 1 meter to 12 meter systems.

  • Experience testing, maintaining and troubleshooting antenna systems ( 1 meter -12 meter dishes) to include controllers, motor/drive assemblies, reflector structure, RF cabling, and RF feed assemblies.

  • Antenna maintenance experience

  • Project management experience

  • Experienced using RF test equipment to include signal generators, network analyzers, spectrum analyzer, vector signal generators

  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding and operate man lifts to perform antenna system support
