Operations Specialist 2 or 3, (Satellite Specialist) - Sign on Bonus!!!

This position will perform mission operations at the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Advanced System and Development Directorate (AD) Research and Development Test and Engineering Support Center (RSC) for the Space Test and Engineering Contract (STEC) located at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM.

The STEC mission provides satellite command and control (C2) and telemetry analysis (TT&C) along with launch and early orbit, on orbit and end-of-life support for numerous unique research and development, demonstration and scientific satellite missions as well as ground systems.

The Operations Specialist position performs a variety of increasingly complex operational tasks to include:

  • Analysis of both ground operational systems and spacecraft operational systems.

  • Supports user and customer interface meetings, exercises, and rehearsals

  • Performs long-term trending of vehicle telemetry, notifying the government of trends that indicate potential vehicle problems

  • Mission and pre-pass planning, scheduling, orbit analysis and orbit product generation functions as well as the required coordination to achieve contact success

  • Real-time evaluation and troubleshooting of spacecraft, payload, and ground systems status in accordance with established mission requirements

  • Post-pass critiques with tracking stations and other real-time support work centers

  • Provide 24x7x365 operational support

Local candidates preferred, relocation package will be considered.


  • Associates degree required

  • Clearance: Active DoD Secret; TS/SCI clearance strongly desired

  • Operations Specialist 2: Associates degree and 5 years of experience

  • Operations Specialist 3: Associates degree and 10 years of experience

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree is desired

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Air Force Satellite Control Network

  • Experience using OS Comet or Neptune CGA command and control software

  • Experience in C# scripting and use of Visual Studio
